I just did a genuine planet distance test tonight with 7 diverse whistles. "decibel" tests with meters are NOT representative of actual planet distance tests with wind, birds, hills, and so on.. They are misleading.
These are the 7 whistles I tested at 1/4 mile distance, more than a hill and with common outdoor noise present (birds, wind, etc.), in order of loudness:
1) Storm
2) Fox 40 Classic
3) Acme Tornado 2000 - the "loudest whistle in the world"
four) Acme Tornado
five) Inexpensive round tubular aluminum whistle.
6) Fox 40 Sharx - on paper, their loudest whistle in decibels
7) Affordable $1.50 whistle\compass\thermometer from DealExtreme
I did my test two numerous approaches and then compared the results. 1st I had my 90 lb. son blow every whistle three instances while I listened from 1/four mile away, more than a modest hill. We could not see every single other, but we employed walkie talkies to communicate. Then we traded locations and repeated the testing. We both wrote down our scores which had been based on how loud we perceived each and every whistle, and we did not show them to every single other till all testing was performed. The STORM Whistle is loud, Rather loud! When I blow this whistle, it is loud and shrill in my own ears! Therefore, I know it is definitely heard by other people! It would be nice to have some type of "extension" piece that attaches to the whistle that way, when blown, the loud and shrill sound is emitted a modest distance AWAY from your own ears! Nonetheless, everybody must keep a whistle (like the STORM) in their vehicles (in case of accidents or emergencies!) and young children should really Constantly carry them when going hiking, camping, boating, etc. - specially within places where they could turn into "lost." An affordable whistle can conserve lives!
