It's amazing to me how many people use string trimmers without any eye protection. There is absolutely no reason to risk your precious eyesight, when low cost safety glasses like Paramex's Mini Ztek Safety Glasses are available. Besides providing good basic eye protection, these glasses are available in a wide variety of colors. So whether you are primarily working indoors, or outside exposed to bright sunlight, you can get a suitable pair of glasses.
The earpieces are plastic, with a rubber insert that goes over the ear, for comfort and a little better grip. The plastic lens wraps around to provide better coverage of the eye socket, with just a little support for the nose at the bottom of the bridge. It is important to note that as the product description states, these glasses are designed for those with "smaller facial sizes". They are only about 5 inches wide, so those with a little wider head, may find the fit a bit tight. The plastic is of course pliable, so the glasses will probably fit you, but the earpieces applying pressure on the sides of your head for long periods of time, may get uncomfortable.
For those into specifications, the glasses are compliant with ANSI Z87.1 2003 requirements for high impact glasses, which is basically the standard for these kinds of glasses. Assuming a good fit, these are economically priced glasses with good coverage, that should provide a basic level of safety. Eyesight is precious, if you need eye protection, don't make excuses, get it and use it.
